Puget Sound ESD is thrilled to announce its 2019 Report to the Community. The report highlights the opportunity gap-closing strategies we are employing in service of our End, Success for Each Child and Eliminate the Opportunity Gap by Leading With Racial Equity, and documents the latest data showing our progress.

Leaders from the state’s Educational Service Districts (ESDs) joined legislators, school staff and student representatives on September 22, for a news conference urging broader support and additional funding for school safety and student mental health services.

Thanks to HB 1216, each educational service district in Washington State will house a Regional School Safety Center. PSESD is moving into its fourth year with our Safety Cooperative and the second year with our Threat Assessment Cooperative. Leveraged with funding from OSPI, we are now positioned to provide safety services throughout the region.

Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD) is seeking a diverse group of representatives who are committed to racial equity, to consider becoming members of the PSESD Board of Directors. The PSESD End, or mission, is Success for Each Child and Eliminate the Opportunity Gap by Leading With Racial Equity.

Educare Seattle and the Learning Communities Foundation (LCF), launched their inaugural edition of The Leaf, a quarterly publication aimed at sharing important information to educate potential donors on the benefits of giving to support programs and services at Educare facilities.

On Sunday, July 7, ReLife staff, students and community members gathered for the unveiling of their newly-made-over facility. After months of community fundraising and with the support of 300 volunteers, the school received new music and art supplies, an updated library and teachers' lounge, redesigned classrooms, and more.

High school students are invited to learn with us and influence the work of the organization into the future. Interns will be part of LIT (Leaders in Training), and participate in learning and leadership sessions with other interns

Interns are compensated $15/hour and need to have transportation to meeting locations and worksite. Internships are held at PSESD (800 Oakesdale Avenue SW, Renton, 98057). 
A transportation stipend of $100 is provided.

The Association of Educational Service Agencies (AESA) is a professional organization serving educational service agencies (ESAs) in 45 states; there are 553 agencies nationwide. AESA is in the position to reach well over 80% of the public school districts, over 83% of the private schools, over 80% certified teachers, and more than 80% non-certified school employees, and well over 80% public and private school students. Annual budgets for ESAs total approximately $15  billion.

We are on track for school budget cuts that disproportionately hurt students of color and those who are living in poverty — the very students who are negatively impacted by the opportunity gap we are all striving to close.

A complex new school funding model was implemented by the Washington State legislature in 2018, following the state Supreme Court ruling that Washington had not been meeting its paramount duty to fully fund basic education for decades.

The Legislature has made great strides in increasing funding for education, for which we are thankful.  The state must continue to adjust the funding system to match student needs today -- particularly student wellness, safety, special education and equitable access to modern school facilities.

On December 6, 2018, the Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD) celebrated the 2018 School of Distinction (SOD) awards in our region. A total of 26 schools in 10 districts have earned this distinctive honor this year.
