Every person deserves to be treated with dignity, and to be able to find sanctuary as a basic human right.
By definition, refugees are those people—those displaced persons forced to flee from their homes and homelands, and who are now seeking refuge and safety. Refugees can be of any age, race, gender, social or economic status, or country of origin, and may escape via any means of travel.
No matter where they come from, every refugee deserves welcome and safe harbor. Every person deserves the right to seek and find safety.
Created by the United Nations, World Refugee Day is an international day that honors refugees around the globe as well as their right to seek and find refuge.
World Refugee Day takes place each year on June 20, and it celebrates the bravery and strength of displaced persons and those forced to flee their home countries to escape persecution or conflict—and their right to do so.
