Virtual Mini-Series Cybersecurity: Locking the Doors & Closing the Windows

April Mardock has supported cybersecurity and InfoTech in 132 different companies. She is well versed in complex, multilayered environments, and is currently the CISO for 60,000 users. She is featured in Tribe of Hackers Blue Team: Tribal Knowledge from the Best in Defensive Cybersecurity. She holds a masters in IT and a CISSP security certification, as well as several other industry-specific certs. In addition to being a national resource on cybersecurity in K–12 schools, she is the CISO for Seattle Public Schools.

  • Session 1 - Staying Safe Online: They REALLY are out to get you! January 31, 2024 | 4:00 – 5:00 pm | Virtual
    We’ll explore the different ways cybercriminals can target you and the steps you can take to protect yourself. You’ll learn about phishing and scams, cyberbullying and harassment, and targeted attacks on at-risk communities and groups. We’ll also cover best practices to staying safe on social media, managing your passwords, and protecting your digital footprint and reputation.
     
  • Session 2 - Pathways to Creating Student Cyber Safety - February 28, 2024 | 4:00 – 5:00 pm | Virtual
    We will discuss a range of topics on student cyber safety such as stranger danger, staying hidden, password security, catching tricksters, digital detective work, games and gizmos, sharing secrets, and finding help. For educators, information on cybersecurity training materials for students, digital literacy and critical thinking, copyright and fair use, and data security and privacy will be shared.
     
  • Session 3 - Best Practices to Avoid Being the Next Ransomware Victim - March 27, 2024 | 4:00 – 5:00 pm | Virtual
    Learn crucial security measures that K-12 schools should prioritize to protect their digital environments. Our expert will cover a range of topics, including cybersecurity training for staff, best protection practices, incident response, monitoring for compromise, patch management, 3rd party vendor security, and cybersecurity insurance considerations.

Observing the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
