A new position offered by PSESD, titled Behavioral Health Navigator, is now open for applications. Click here to apply. The Navigator position is designed to assure a dedicated focus on enhancing school/healthcare partnerships and increase access to care for students by understanding current obstacles impeding access and working collaboratively to eliminate those barriers. Guidance for this position is reflected in HB 1216, which conveys the recommendations of a similar pilot conducted at ESDs 101 and 113. The pilots launched in 2017, have brought to the remaining ESDs an operation manual, job description, needs assessment tool and collective wisdom all designed for a strong start.
Once hired, the first task of the Navigator will be to learn about community provider and school perspectives, concerns, and interests. This will include interviewing all districts to learn about their current system and their desired system for supporting the mental health and well-being of students.
This assessment process will include such components as:
- Staff training
- Mental health literacy
- Behavioral health curricula
- Use of MAC (Medicaid Match) program
- Suicide Prevention Plans
- Access and ease of community based referrals/services
Once concluded, the Navigator will establish priorities with stakeholders and create an action plan designed to shift support, and/or transform systems for the purpose of assuring mental health access for all youth. PSESD operates with all programming by leading with race equity. We look forward to taking next steps with you this fall!
