PSESD Reps Meet with Washington Legislators
A photo of a group of PSESD representatives standing with a staffer at Senator Maria Cantwell's office before a photo of a mountain.

PSESD representatives recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with our federal legislators and share the value of education for students and families in our region.

Chris and Rebecca, two of our early learning parent policy representatives, shared their stories and highlighted challenges with proposed Head Start rulemaking. Potential changes to Head Start, E-Rate, and Title funding are statewide concerns — Jessica from the Association of Educational Service Districts (AESD), Erin from ESD 113, and Trisha from North Central Educational Service District (NCESD) joined us for the legislator visits.

Thanks to the Association of Educational Service Agencies (AESA) for hosting the Advocacy Conference that brought us together for this work, and to our legislators and their staffers for meeting with us: Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and representatives Pramila Jayapal, Suzan DelBene, Adam Smith, Marilyn Strickland, and Kim Schrier!

July 2 marks the anniversary of our Civil Rights Act—a landmark moment in U.S. history of the Act signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on July 2, 1964. It prohibited racial discrimination in public places, as well as providing for the integration of schools and other public facilities. It also made employment discrimination illegal and was considered the most sweeping civil rights legislation since Reconstruction.

Across PSESD, today’s students are doing more than studying the environment—they’re working to save it.

In Snoqualmie Valley School District, Meadowbrook School’s (MBS) secondary students recently took their commitment to environmental stewardship to the banks of the Snoqualmie River. Students partnered with Nature Vision and the Changing Seasons Farm, as part of their Blue Team program, to continue a vital, multi-year study of the local salmon spawning watershed near Carnation.
