PSESD Presents: AUTHENTIC LEARNING IN THE AGE OF AI, with Dr. John Spencer

The AI revolution is here: How will you respond? And what AI tools can be utilized for personalized learning? Don’t miss this essential two-part event ("Authentic Learning in the Age of AI") for K-12 Educators, Leaders, and Administrators in ALL content areas, taking place on Saturday, March 30, and Saturday, May 4, 2024!

Session 1: How Will We Respond to the AI Revolution?
Sat., March 30, 2024
8:30 a.m. — 3:30 p.m.

The A.I. Revolution is here. For some, its exciting. For others, it feels terrifying. Still others feel baffled and confused by it. Many of us feel a mix of all three emotions. But one thing is clear. It’s here and it’s not going away. In this workshop, we explore how we might adapt and change as we navigate the new terrain of an AI world. We explore the human skills students will need in a world of smart machines. Using a lens of justice and equity, we’ll discuss what it looks like to use AI ethically and wisely as we empower our students with voice and choice. Ultimately, we’ll be reminded of the hope and humanity we continue to have in a time of epic change.

Session 2: Using AI Tools for Personalized Learning
Sat., May 4, 2024
8:30 a.m. — 3:30 p.m.

Machine learning can help make differentiated instruction more feasible. In this workshop, we explore how we can use AI tools to design structured language supports, differentiate texts for reading instruction, and provide templates for scaffolding among students with learning differences. Using a UDL approach, you’ll discover how you, as an educator, can take the initial AI-generated supports and customize them based on your knowledge of students. AI cannot replace the relationship that students have with teachers. However, it can save educators time so they can craft more meaningful and relevant personalized learning for all students. We also explore how to design choice menus and inquiry-based activities to make personalized learning more relevant and meaningful for students.

Location: PSESD (800 Oakesdale Ave SW, Renton, WA 98057)
Details: Eligible for up to 12 clock hours, with options of STEM & Equity hours. Lunch is included. Check-in for both sessions is 8 a.m.

Celebrating our Education Support Professionals at PSESD

In education, the thousands who serve among the support professionals are an integral part of the industry and its importance.

That’s why it’s so important to celebrate their contributions each year for Education Support Professionals week, which takes place this year from March 10–14, 2025. The week was first noted for celebration in 1975 by PSE in order to salute the irreplaceable contributions of Education Support Professionals (or ESPs, for short) in the public school system.
