- Safety
In its fourth year, the PSESD Safety Cooperative has provided professional development and networking opportunities as well as resources and representation at state-level committees and workgroups. This year, the Safety Cooperative partnered with federal and state agencies to provide "train-the-trainer" workshops that allow security staff to bring training back to their districts; hosted a panel on social media safety; and continue to develop further training to strengthen district and student internet safety. Look for new professional development opportunities in the upcoming year, as well as a Safety Summit.
In the PSESD Threat Assessment Cooperative's second year, the Threat Assessment Cooperative has held 15 trainings for over 290 district staff representing over 100 schools. In addition to public school membership in the cooperative, we are now providing threat assessment training and services to charter and private schools. With the passing of House Bill 1216 (HB1216) in May 2019, the Threat Assessment Cooperative received additional resources that facilitated the hiring of a second Threat Assessment Consultant, ensuring that the Cooperative could provide comprehensive, dedicated services throughout King and Pierce Counties. We are tremendously appreciative that the Legislature appropriated additional funding for this critical effort in the 2020 session. To date, the Cooperative provided four trainings on the Salem-Keizer Threat Assessment Model to eleven regional school districts, and these trainings will continue over the course of the next several months.
