Learning about Equitable Partnerships in Schools with Best Starts for Kids Investments

The PSESD Strategy, Evaluation, and Learning team joined with partners at Mill Creek Middle School in Kent School District to host a webinar on June 11, 2020. We shared what we are learning about equitable partnerships in schools through the Best Starts for Kids (BSK) School Partnership Evaluation. This evaluation focuses on schools that have received multiple school partnership grants from BSK and seeks to understand:

  • How equitable partnerships are developing between schools, community-based organizations, students, and families, and the factors that support these partnerships
  • How equitable partnerships contribute to lasting changes in schools and particularly for students of color
  • How BSK is supporting equitable partnerships in schools

This webinar highlights results from Year 1 of this three-year evaluation and features a panel of partners from Mill Creek Middle School who are supporting students with Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral To Services (SBIRT) and Trauma-Informed and Restorative Practices (TIRP). The Mill Creek partners bring the work of equitable partnerships to life and show what is possible in creating racially just and humanizing schools. You can access the webinar recording here. The Puget Sound College & Career Network, the Community Center for Educational Results, and Highline College have released a new report, Inequity by Design: How College Placement Policies Perpetuate Institutional Racism. The report is the culmination of a multi-year, three-study series exploration into the enrollment and placement policies of community and technical colleges in the Road Map Project region and the subsequent impacts on high school graduates seeking to enter those institutions.
