Helping Refugee Families Get Ready for School!

This summer, PSESD partnered with World Relief - Western Washington to support refugee students and their families as they prepared for the upcoming school year! Through the World Relief Kinders Summer Camp 2024, PSESD’s amazing bus drivers stepped up to make sure students got to camp safely, many of them riding a school bus for the very first time.

World Relief’s Kinders Summer Camp is a 4 week long kindergarten readiness focused program designed for refugee and immigrant children. Through fun, hand-on activities, class room learning, and field trips, the camp aims to support children gain key early learning and social emotional skills for a successful start at Kindergarten. Transportation can be a huge barrier for these families, but thanks to the flexibility, compassion, and responsiveness of PSESD's transportation team, the kids and their families felt supported every step of the way.

PSESD Transportation Manager Davina Miller-Leach commented,  “The joy that the drivers got to experience with the students is what was most satisfying for us as a staff to witness. A driver we asked stated that he loved being a part of the field trips, and that watching the kids soak in the information at those moments blessed him. The driver loved meeting new families and learning about new cultures.”

Together, we're helping these children and their families to feel more comfortable and confident as they begin their educational journeys. Join us as we send a huge shoutout to our incredible bus drivers and the World Relief team for making this possible! 💪 #CommunitySupport #RefugeeYouth #BackToSchool #PSESD

Celebrating our Education Support Professionals at PSESD

In education, the thousands who serve among the support professionals are an integral part of the industry and its importance.

That’s why it’s so important to celebrate their contributions each year for Education Support Professionals week, which takes place this year from March 10–14, 2025. The week was first noted for celebration in 1975 by PSE in order to salute the irreplaceable contributions of Education Support Professionals (or ESPs, for short) in the public school system.
