The Franklin Pierce School District Native American Education Program is holding its second annual powwow Saturday, June 1, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Franklin Pierce High School.
The powwow is being planned by high school students at both FPHS and Washington High School who take part in the district’s Native American Education Program and is being overseen by program coordinator Teresa Washington (Nooksack). The program is run through a partnership between the school district and the Puget Sound ESD NAEP.
All are welcome to attend. We suggest you try the fry bread, or go all out and make it an Indian taco! And make sure you peruse the various Native American vendors that will be set up throughout the building.
During the powwow, we will also have a special ceremony to recognize and gift the seniors who take part in the FPSD Native American program.
If you have never been to a powwow and would like to experience one, this is a great introduction! The MC, Arlie Neskahi (Navajo), is one of the best powwow emcees around and will do an excellent job of explaining things that are happening along with its traditions!
