- Cultural Calendar

On December 10, 1948, in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the General Assembly of the United Nations outlined the fundamental freedoms and basic human rights to which all people are entitled. It is a declaration that has since been translated into over 575 languages, making it the single most translated document across the world.
Taking place throughout the month of December, Universal Human Rights Month celebrates the freedoms so carefully outlined in that historic document, emphasizing human rights for all regardless of age, gender, race, sexual preference, or political affiliation. The centerpiece of the month is the observance of Human Rights Day, which takes place on December 10, with this year's theme for 2025 entitled “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials.”
Across the month of December, Human Rights Month is celebrated with a series of diverse cultural events, festivals, and more in order to observe the promotion of human rights and to uphold the Universal Declaration of Human Rights itself.
