Celebrating International Women's Day
Smiling women embrace in a circle

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration of the unmistakable social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women across the centuries, with this year’s theme as #GivetoGain.

IWD has been celebrating the achievements of women worldwide for over a century now, with 1911’s inaugural IWD gathering supported by over one million people. Today, millions worldwide join in the celebration to honor women and their accomplishments on an international level across the ages.

This year’s "Give to Gain" theme encourages actionable, collaborative support to foster gender equality while also celebrating women across a rich variety of fields, from art to science to business and beyond.

It prohibited racial discrimination in public places, as well as providing for the integration of schools and other public facilities. It also made employment discrimination illegal and was considered the most sweeping civil rights legislation since Reconstruction.

Across PSESD, today’s students are doing more than studying the environment—they’re working to save it.

In Snoqualmie Valley School District, Meadowbrook School’s (MBS) secondary students recently took their commitment to environmental stewardship to the banks of the Snoqualmie River. Students partnered with Nature Vision and the Changing Seasons Farm, as part of their Blue Team program, to continue a vital, multi-year study of the local salmon spawning watershed near Carnation.
