Certification and Fingerprinting

Washington State Legislature changed the process for certification, giving the responsibility to OSPI. As a result, the PSESD Certification office is closed.

Washington’s new e-Certification deployed January 2014. Effective immediately, PSESD can no longer provide permits to educators. For more detailed information regarding the deployment, visit OSPI’s e-Certification web page.

We will continue to provide fingerprinting services by appointment only. Please call or email us at the information listed below. We appreciate your patience during this transition.

Fingerprinting is required of all individuals who have regular, unsupervised access to children, including those seeking certificates, and those employed in a certified or classified position.

PSESD provides fingerprinting services using digital technology.  This creates high quality prints that are transmitted directly to the Washington State Patrol.  After additional review by the FBI, fingerprint records are held by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) in Olympia.

To be fingerprinted by PSESD, you will need:

  • Picture ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.)
  • Appropriate payment.  Payment can be made in the form of cash, Visa, MasterCard or money order (payable to PSESD). We no longer accept personal checks.

Fingerprinting is available by appointment only, Monday – Friday.  Appointments take approximately 15 minutes.

To make your fingerprint appointment please email fingerprinting@psesd.org.  For recorded information on the current fingerprinting calendar schedule call 425-917-7613.

Fingerprinting Fees (as of 7/1/2015):

  • Washington State Patrol Processing fee: $45.75
  • PSESD Fingerprinting fee: $36.75

TOTAL FEE: $82.50
