Summer is officially here and I want to again thank you for your work during the 2016-17 school year! While this year was not without challenges and transitions, our region has much to celebrate.
I encourage each of you to take some time this summer for yourselves, your friends and families. It’s important to relax and rejuvenate before we come back in August to launch the 2017-18 school year.
One of our biggest accomplishments as an agency this year was the development and debut of Racial Equity Competencies. These competencies were collaboratively developed by a Steering Committee over a period of several months, using a transparent and inclusive process. I want to thank the Steering Committee and Director Maxine Broussard-Upchurch for their thoughtful leadership on this critical milestone in our agency’s journey to becoming an antiracist, multicultural organization.
While summer time means vacation for our students and many of us get to enjoy time with our families, summer learning and professional development is a focus for many educators in our region and certainly remains a focus in our agency. I encourage you to take a look at the workshops and classes on our calendar that we are offering all summer long, more continue to be added through the school year.
Please check out our website so you can stay informed of our plans for the upcoming year. We remain committed to our vision, Success for Each Child and Eliminate the Opportunity Gap by Leading with Racial Equity. We are excited to continue to partner with you as you serve the students and families in your community.
