Pre-K-12 Life Skills Curriculum GuideSpecial Services facilitated a series of meetings between 2003 and 2006 with individuals concerned about services for students with developmental disabilities and autism. As this process unfolded, this "DD/Autism Group" decided to create a curriculum guide to be used for students with severe disabilities that builds on a variety of resources, two major ones being:
- Clover Park School District (1980). Life skills curriculum guide. Lakewood, WA: Author.
- Puyallup School District (1998). K-12 Life Skills Curriculum. Puyallup, WA: Author.
The curriculum guide is the work of many thoughtful and hard-working individuals from the Bethel, Highline, Issaquah, Northshore, Renton, Shoreline, and Tahoma school districts and Puget Sound Educational Service District. We hope this guide will help teachers and other educators (nurses, OTs, paraeducators, psychologists, PTs, SLPs) as they approach programming for students with severe disabilities.
The PreK-12 Life Skills Curriculum Guide is available to be downloaded in sections. They are meant to go in order – LSC1, then LSC2, etc. Many of the sections are Word files and can be modified to meet your needs. We would ask that credit for the original development of the material continue to be given to the school personnel who spent significant time in its development. We hope you find the PreK-12 Life Skills Curriculum Guide a useful document!!
