21st Century Community Learning Centers Great Pathways Program
The 21st Century Community Learning Centers Great Pathways program provides after-school learning opportunities for children and adults in a supervised, safe and drug-free environment. Schools provide a place for children to complete homework and participate in experiential, hands-on activities including arts and crafts, dance, cooking, computers, drama and other activities. Combining an academic atmosphere with a variety of high-interest activities has been found to be a key component in successful after-school programs.
Arts Impact
Arts Impact provides comprehensive professional development programs in the arts to elementary classroom teachers. The program has been in Pierce County since 1999 where it has served more than 130 teachers in two-year coaching programs reaching over 3,250 students
Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD)
Puget Sound ESD, in partnership with ASCD (Association for
Supervision and Curriculum Development), is pleased to offer online
interactive multimedia courses that provide flexibility for
participants without sacrificing meaningful content. Each course
includes activities, reading materials, and access to a learner forum,
where participants have the opportunity to communicate online with
other students.
Clock Hours
Puget Sound ESD offers assistance to educators, school districts, and educational organizations in obtaining approval for continuing education clock hour credits for inservice classes.
Clock hour transcripts, evaluation summaries, and other record-keeping for individuals' and course providers' Washington State clock hours.
Content Area Specialist: Literacy and Math
Puget Sound ESD's Content Area Specialists provide customized training and support in math, reading, writing and communications tool-kits.
Education for Homeless Students
The Education for Homeless Students Program offers consultation and technical assistance to schools regarding homeless student transportation, laws and rights.
Interpreter & Equity Center
Providing equitable access to education by removing language barriers and enhancing cross-cultural relationships
Knowledge Bowl
In Knowledge Bowl, teams compete on their ability to recall information
in the fields of language arts, science and social studies. Finalists
will compete in the state competition.
Native American Education Program
The Native American Education Program offers academic assistance, advising, advocacy and resource referral for Native American students and families as well as cultural awareness opportunities and other resources for students, teachers and families.
OLWEUS Bully Prevention Program
Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is a school-wide effort that is both
preventative and problem-solving and uses best practices to change the
norms and behaviors to significantly improve school climate.
Paraeducator Services
Puget Sound ESD provides regional and district classes, scholarships, online learning, regional and state conferences, and mentoring programs for paraeducators.
Prevention Center
The Prevention Center provides customized consultation, classes, and regional and on-site training for school staff.

Professional Development
Workshops and training opportunities can be customized to meet your district's needs and take place at our site or yours. For-purchase services include, but are not limited to, Content Area Specialist and Substitute Teacher Training.
Puget Sound Regional Crisis Response Team
Immediate crisis support for schools including support during the death of a student or staff member, sexual and physical assault, the witnessing of a traumatic event or any event that polarizes, isolates or causes severe emotional distress.
Readiness-To-Learn Project
The Greater Pierce County Consortium for Children and Families is a collaborative effort of families, school districts, and agencies providing family support services in 30 schools. We are working to find better ways to support children, and improve services to families in our communities. Our work has led to successful grant applications to the Washington State Family Policy Council, U.S. Department of Education, and Pierce County Violence Prevention Program.
Regional High School Art Show
Puget Sound ESD’s annual high school art competition encourages
students to share their work with other students in the PSESD region
and Washington State and emphasize the role of the arts as a core
subject area. The competition is open to students enrolled in grades
9-12
in any public or state-approved private school in the ESD region.
Students enter their artwork at the regional level, with several pieces
chosen to compete at the state level. Artwork is judged on
creativity, composition, and technique.
The ReLife School
ReLife is a coordinated, multi-service program for students, grades 5 -
12, with severe emotional and behavioral characteristics.
Safe and Drug Free Schools
The Safe and Drug Free Schools Cooperative facilitates a 10 member rural district consortia in its efforts to establish and maintain comprehensive school safety and substance abuse prevention programs including prevention, intervention, aftercare and community involvement.
Safe Schools/Healthy Students
The Safe Schools Healthy Students Coalition works with all the school
districts in Pierce County as well as law enforcement, mental health
agencies, other family serving agencies, youth and the faith community
to provide all children with a safe, drug free environment that promotes
learning and healthy development.
School Nurse Corps
The School Nurse Corps, in partnership with schools, families and
communities, will help students to achieve academic success by
improving school health services and health outcomes.
Sensory Disabilities Services
Washington Sensory Disabilities Services (WSDS) is a statewide project
that supports the developmental and educational needs of children and
youth who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired, or
deaf-blind.
Student Diversity Summit
This three-day camp offers school teams the opportunity to attend
interactive breakout sessions and activities designed to help them
understand how issues of diversity impact academic achievement. The
goal of this camp is for students to create an action plan that will
promote a positive environment in their own schools.
Substance Abuse Prevention & Intervention Services
The Prevention and Intervention Services Program, operated by the
Prevention Center through the Office of Superintendent of Public
Instruction (OSPI), places Prevention/Intervention (P/I) specialists in
schools to implement comprehensive student assistance programs to
address substance abuse related barriers to learning that impact
individual students, peer culture, and the school climate.
Substitute Teacher Training
A course designed to assist substitute teachers with strategies for everyday teaching situations. The class is designed around four areas of importance: classroom management, instructional strategies, behavioral issues, and professional responsibilities. As substitute teachers, participants will be able to add to their personal toolkit for successful substitute teaching. Our local practitioners will engage the group in dialogue so that they can learn from one another, as well as from the course materials.
Tobacco Prevention Program
Through funds from Washington State Department of Health, and the
state’s Master Settlement funds, PSESD supports school districts to
integrate tobacco prevention planning into their overall comprehensive
prevention planning process.
