Arts-Infused ClassroomArts Impact has received a second U. S. Dept. of Education Arts Education Model Development and Dissemination grant to further research the impact of arts-infused learning on student achievement in math and writing. The new project expands and refines the successful Arts Infused Summer School program and will implement an arts-infused curriculum into 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classrooms from six schools in Tacoma and Bethel School Districts. Performance Based Assessment Performance-based learning assessments focused on clear, transparent criteria as a mutual teacher/student focus for learning form the backbone of Arts Impact instructional strategy and are applied at every level of the program — teacher arts learning and student arts learning. Research and EvaluationIn 2002 Arts Impact was one of seventeen arts organizations selected from more than 200 applicants nationally to receive a nearly $1 million U.S. Department of Education Arts Education Model Development and Dissemination AEMDD grant. Lesson PlansArts Impact uses a common lesson plan format co-designed with teachers. The lesson plan identifies key art lesson components such as targets/criteria, the big idea of the lesson, teaching and classroom management strategies, cultural and material resources, vocabulary, assessment strategies, and state arts standards.
