Positive Steps Program Supports Keeping Kids Engaged in School

PSESD has been accepted as the new home for the Pierce County Positive Steps program. PSESD’s Prevention Center plans to carry on the Positive Steps work that has been conducted by Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department for the last decade.
Positive Steps works with families with children in Pierce County who have been identified as truant or at risk for running away and/or engaging in criminal behavior. Trained social workers work with students and families to connect them with community resources and reengage them in school. Communities across the county have established Positive Steps Teams to generate referrals, offer resources and guide the program outcomes. The program has experienced tremendous success for students and their families. PSESD is honored to follow the program guidance and expects to be in full swing before the start of the 2010 school year.
