Welcome to PSESD, John Welch!

John WelchJohn Welch, former superintendent of Highline Public Schools, has joined PSESD as superintendent-elect. PSESD superintendent Dr. Monte Bridges and Welch will lead the agency together for one year, after which time Bridges is retiring. Bridges and Welch will divide up and cover job responsibilities of both the superintendent position and the deputy superintendent position.

The opportunity for this unique and innovative leadership transition was created by the retirement of PSESD’s deputy superintendent, Janice Watson, in July 2011 and Superintendent Monte Bridges' announced retirement in summer 2012. Instead of filling the deputy superintendent vacancy for the 2011-12 year, the Board elected to conduct a superintendent search.

Congratulations to Seattle School District's Julie Trout, Puget Sound ESD's Regional Teacher of the Year!

Julie Trout has been a visual arts specialist at BF Day Elementary School since 2008. She created and implements a thriving visual arts program that includes instruction in all mediums with an emphasis on world cultures and integration of core subjects with visual arts.

In her Teacher of the Year application a retired principal noted, "Julie's instructional practice is creative and grounded in best practice. She gets results! Yet her greatest power as an educator is her ability to shine light and love in the classroom. She instills confidence in children and supports them in taking safe risks in their thinking and learning.  Julie consistently holds students accountable to wise, respectful behavior by modeling it herself and fearlessly coaching them to be their best."
