Congratulations to Michelle Kelly, primary Highly Capable classroom teacher at Kent Elementary in the Kent School District. She is Puget Sound ESD’s Teacher of the Year for 2010.
Certification: Jan Mathsen, Certification Officer,
The Puget Sound ESD is committed to partnering with schools to ensure that all students receive equal access to a high quality education. In efforts to accomplish this goal, we have created the Interpreter and Equity Center.
Adolescents who use drugs, especially marijuana and other illicit drugs, are characterized by many of the same attributes as are school dropouts, particularly less commitment and attachment to conventional values and institutions, such as the family and school, and lower psychological well-being. Adolescents who use drugs tend to have poorer relationships with their parents, stronger ties to their peers, poorer grades, more negative attitudes about school, and low self-esteem; in addition they are more often absent from school, less religious, more depressed, more rebellious, and higher in risk-taking behavior and participate more frequently in delinquent activities (Mensch & Kandel, 1988).
This year the Washington Federation of Independent Schools and Puget Sound ESD are combining their efforts to offer a single, special all-day forum for private and independent schools in our region. Join other administrators, teachers, paraeducators, technology specialists, and interested parties from the preschool and K-12 educational community in hearing informative presentations by OSPI, PSESD, and your peers.
